The X-Men are a group of superheroes, created by screenwriter Stan Lee and cartoonist Jack Kirby, whose adventures were published in the comic book X-Men edited by Marvel Comics from September 1963. In the X-Men universe, genetic mutations grant super-powers to a growing part of the population. These superhuman qualities are generally revealed in adolescence, a critical moment during which a mutant can sink into doubt and misguidance or on the contrary can manage to control his gifts and become a fulfilled individual. In order to help them through this difficult moment, Professor Charles Xavier created a specialized school where he trains them to use their powers and to accept themselves. It also teaches them to live in harmony with "normal" humans.
