A manga is a Japanese comic. The word "manga" is sometimes used to designate, by extension, a non-Japanese comic that respects the codes of popular Japanese productions or to name, awkwardly, other visual products reminiscent of some of these comics. The Japanese word "manga" often translated literally as "derisory image" or "unsuccessful drawing", is composed of "ga" which designates the graphic representation ("drawing", "painting" or any image drawn - like the print) and "man" "involuntary", "entertaining", "aimless", but also "exaggerating", "overflowing" (which can be interpreted as a caricature), as well as "over the idea". Thus one could also translate this word as "free line drawing", "sketch according to the whim", "bad image" or simply caricature.
