The character of Mr. Patate is inspired by a real toy for children appeared in the United States in the years 1952, then marketed by Hasbro brand (today by its subsidiary Playskool). It was originally plastic accessories intended to be inserted into real vegetables. It was only in 1964 that the plastic body shaped potato was commercially available. Mr. Patate appeared on television in 1985 in a cartoon, before making his Hollywood debut in 1995 with Toy Story.
