Dinosaur (Animals)
Present at the end of the Carnian, about 230 million years ago, the dinosaurs disappear almost entirely during the Cretaceous-Tertiary crisis 66 million years ago. Only birds that emerge from small Middle Jurassic theropod dinosaurs survive this extinction, allowing them to thrive and diversify considerably during the Cenozoic. With birds, dinosaurs are today one of the most flourishing groups of vertebrates, and tetrapods are the most diverse taxonomically and morphologically, their species now being more numerous than those of mammals.
